OFFICE OF EMPLOYMENT TRAINING (OET) SERVICES

JobLink received certification from the state of Virginia as a One-Stop Career Center with the implementation of the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in July 2000. We are now part of the employment service agencies nationwide that operate under the umbrella of the Department of Labor to provide workforce services to everyone, even those not residing in the City of Alexandria. JobLinkís Office of Employment Training (OET) can provide various services to customers who meet WIA eligibility requirements.

Access Core Services
All customers have universal access to JobLinkís Core Services that are free of charge. We have over thirty (30) new computers available to the public with Internet access during hours of operation. Self-directed job search customers can view our board of current up-to-date job vacancies in the local and surrounding areas. Customers may use high quality copiers, fax machines, telephones and even set up a voicemail account for employers to contact and follow up regarding possible job opportunities.

Access Intensive Services
Customers who desire more guidance in their job search can access JobLinkís free Intensive Services to receive assistance from Employment Training Specialists (ETS), career counseling, job search assistance, job development, and assist job placement. Customers who meet with an ETS can determine the need for intensive services such as vocational assessments, out-of-area job search assistance, transportation assistance, internships, job preparation, work experience, supportive services, or other services deemed necessary.

Funding for occupational skills educational training is available for customers who meet eligibility requirements. Residents who need literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes can also receive the courses free of charge.
