Services available to job seekers/workers include job referral and placement,
referral to training, and job search skill building activities. The VEC
provides a wide variety of self-help, computer-assisted, as well as printed
and video career guidance materials to help in your job search. Computers
available in each VEC field office allow easy access to information about
job opportunities, unemployment insurance, and labor market conditions across
Virginia. Internet access is available to America’s Job Bank and other
employment related sites on the web.
The VEC also administers the unemployment insurance program, which provides
protection against loss of wages to individuals who become unemployed through
no fault of their own. Benefits are paid through taxes on employers covered
under the Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act. No part of the cost is
deducted from the workers earnings. To qualify to receive unemployment benefits,
you must meet certain requirements, and you must file your initial claim
for benefits in person or through the Internet.
The VEC home page address for use in accessing job search and career information,
or filing your initial claim is: http://www.vec.state.va.us/.
