Youth Employment Services
The Youth Employment program gives students
14 to 21 years of age real work experience to strengthen skills learned in
the classroom. The program offers youth the opportunity to earn extra money
and gain valuable job skills through partnerships with local businesses and
government agencies. Businesses receive dedicated and enthusiastic young employees
who contribute to company success. The program is funded through the Department
of Labor (DOL) Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and local city funding.
Private Sector Placements
– Youth are assisted in acquiring employment with private industries
in Alexandria. Admission into the program is based on family income. The family
income of a participant must not exceed $45,000 per year for the unsubsidized
program. However, verification of a disability or an Individualized Education
Plan (IEP) may provide eligibility if income exceeds $45,000.00 per year.

1. Age 16 to 21 years of age
2. Resident of Alexandria
3. Verification of Disability
4. Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
5. Eligible to work in the United States
Public Sector Placements
– Youth are placed in Alexandria City offices and non-profit agencies.
Admission into the program is based on public school subsidized free lunch
program or proof of disability.

4. Social Security Card with signature
5. Verification of Residency - (post-marked mail addressed to applicant, current
school OR report card)
6. Family Income Verification – pay stub within the last six (6) months
from each income earner in the household, W-2 form from previous year, OR
record of public assistance
